ECM / Module Programming in Louisville | ECM, TCM & BCM Reprogramming

Module programming, calibration updates, injector coding, and replacement module setup for all makes.

Signs You Need ECM Service

Control-module issues often look mechanical. Common signs include check engine lights with no confirmed mechanical cause, no-start after ECM/PCM replacement, limp mode, hard shifts, poor fuel economy, lost scan-tool communication, BCM accessory problems, or engine roughness after repair.

These problems may need VIN programming, immobilizer sync, injector coding, throttle relearn, crank sensor variation learn, BCM configuration, or TCM adaptive reset. We test first, confirm the programming path, and quote before work begins.

ECM Programming & Repair

Your Engine Control Module (ECM), also called PCM or ECU depending on the manufacturer, controls fuel injection timing, boost pressure, throttle response, idle speed, and emissions systems.

We perform ECM reprogramming/reflash, ECM replacement programming, injector coding, crank sensor variation learn, throttle relearn, idle relearn, and emissions system reflash for DPF regen settings, EGR calibration, and DEF system updates.

We program modules for domestic, import, diesel, and heavy-duty vehicles using factory-level software and J2534 Pass-Thru tools.

TCM & PCM Programming

The TCM controls shift timing, line pressure, torque converter lock-up, and adaptive learning. Outdated software or lost programming can make a good transmission feel like it is failing.

We program TCMs for harsh shifts, delayed engagement, hunting for gears, TCM replacement, adaptive learning reset, calibration updates, and Allison 1000/2000 series diagnostics. Example: a 2017 Ford F-250 with a 6R140 transmission that hunts for gears after valve body work may need a Ford calibration update, not another transmission repair.

Many vehicles combine ECM and TCM functions inside the PCM. We program PCMs for replacement modules, engine swaps, full calibration flashes, and compatible remanufactured PCMs for older vehicles.

Performance Tuning

Performance tuning adjusts fuel maps, timing curves, throttle response, and shift behavior for better power and drivability. It is useful after upgrades such as injectors, turbochargers, intake, exhaust, or other performance parts.

We avoid generic canned tunes. The calibration must match the vehicle, hardware, use case, and driving goals.

Arian Auto Club Repair supports mild daily-driver tuning and optimized calibrations for modified diesel or gas engines in Louisville.

Delete Tuning (Off-Road Only)

⚠️ For Off-Road and Competition Use Only

We offer ECM delete tuning — DPF delete, EGR delete, DEF delete — only for off-road, competition, farming, racing, or other off-highway vehicles.

Delete tuning removes DPF regeneration cycles and monitoring, EGR valve operation, and DEF injection/monitoring.

Important — EPA Compliance: Delete tuning is illegal for on-road use under the Clean Air Act. We do NOT offer delete tuning for vehicles operated on public roads. All delete work is labeled for off-road use only. Removing emissions equipment on a road-driven vehicle can result in EPA fines up to $4,500 per violation.

We recommend keeping emissions systems intact for on-road vehicles. We can repair DPF, EGR, and DEF systems to factory specifications; see our Cummins 6.7L Diesel Repair page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between ECM, PCM, TCM, and ECU?

ECM controls the engine. PCM can control engine and transmission together. TCM controls the transmission, and ECU is another term often used for engine control modules on European and Asian vehicles.

What tools do you use for ECM programming?

We use GM GDS2, Ford FDRS, Chrysler wiTECH, BMW ISTA, Mercedes XENTRY, and J2534 Pass-Thru programming. These are factory-level tools, not generic aftermarket scanners.

Can you program an ECM from a salvage yard?

Yes, if the module is compatible with your vehicle. We verify the part number, VIN requirements, and calibration before flashing. Some newer vehicles (2018+) have VIN-locked modules that cannot be reused.

My check engine light came on after I had work done at another shop. Can a reflash fix it?

Possibly. Some repairs require injector coding, crank sensor variation learn, throttle relearn, or TCM adaptive reset. We scan the module and perform the required programming.

Is tuning bad for my engine?

A proper tune from a reputable source is not bad for your engine. The risk comes from aggressive tuning without supporting fuel, cooling, or transmission upgrades.

Do you need my vehicle or can you mail me a programmed ECM?

We prefer to have the vehicle in our shop because many procedures require communication with the immobilizer, anti-theft system, BCM, and other modules. For certain bench programming jobs, Contact us for bench programming availability and pricing..

How long does ECM programming take?

Most ECM/TCM/BCM programming takes 30-60 minutes. Module replacement with immobilizer sync can take 2-3 hours.

Can you tune my Cummins for more power?

Yes. We can optimize ECM calibration for power, throttle response, and drivability. Emissions delete tuning is off-road only; on-road performance gains must keep emissions equipment intact.
